Exciting event for today: I received my This American Life Lost Buildings DVD in the mail, and, well, wow. It really is beautiful, and it almost justifies the large amount of money I had to pledge to WBEZ to get it. (Only "almost" because it was a pretty large amount of money and I'm a poor graduate student.)

Anyway, so it's beautiful and of course I had to make some icons from it...which means I'm now at my limit of 50 userpics. I don't know what the hell I need so many for, except that making them is the funnest time-waster of all.

When I saw Ira Glass in NY last month, the Louis Sullivan story was the climax. It was gorgeous seeing the slides on this huge projection screen & with Ira's soundtrack.

The accompanying "coffee table" book looks beautiful.

Yeah, I saw the story live about a year and a half ago, and I remembered it being absolutely amazing. It's not quite as stunning on a 12-inch laptop screen as it was on the towering screen at the Chicago Theatre, but it's still incredibly moving and beautiful.

The book is beautiful too, but it's not exactly a "coffee table book"—it's pretty small, so it's more like a, hm, nightstand book. Or maybe a footstool book.

Haha. Maybe you could put it on a cake stand.

Oooh, I wonder when mine's gonna come! *wants!!* Glad to hear it almost justifies that amount of money. WBEZ will be sucking the cash out of me for a year...

Somewhat relatedly, I got notice from the dorm mail room that I received the "envelope" that you sent me... I'll be picking that up when I get back on the 3rd. :)

Hee, I didn't realize they sent you updates about your mail (they didn't do that back in my day says the old lady). I figured I would go ahead and send it even though you wouldn't get it until you got back and then you'd be surprised...but I guess the surprise came a little earlier than I expected. :)

Yeah, they implemented email updates about your packages during my first year instead of the old paper slips in your box. Very convenient, as most of the mail I get tends to be packages/large envelopes.

I must say I was surprised to see a package from you come in... I'm sure it will be a surprise when I get back, as I don't know what it is! :D
